Asticones (pronounce asteecone) is the first icons navigation software for MacOSX. It is made to help with personalizing the appearance of folders and files, and the management of icons downloaded from the net.
Asticones looks like this (screenshot).
Asticones lets you navigate in the folders of your hard drives, displaying only the custom icons they contain at the size you want. (It also displays ".icns" icons files and images previews).
Asticones helps you attribute an icon to a file by simply dragging it from the Finder.
With Asticones, you can also:
Asticones uses the file structure of the Finder, letting you keep "read me" files or other things that come inevitably with icons distributions on the net.
Asticones is available in french, english and japanese.
Asticones should run on MacOSX 10.2 and 10.3 and 10.4. As far as I know.
Asticones is a "what-you-want-ware". You can download and use it with no restriction. If you use can, you can do something to please me, but this is not an obligation. For instance sending me a nice email is good. A link from your web page is good too if appropriate.
You can redistribute Asticones on movable storage (a magazine’s CD for example) whithout requiring my authorisation , but in that case you SHOULD notify me by email, just so I know. Please.
Asticones is developed in cocoa/carbon by Spyro (me) during my spare time and it’s development may have some slowdonws, but I still don’t want to abandon it. I have no other beta tester than me, so be warned that you may encounter unexpected bugs. However, I will put online a version of Asticones only if it works for me the way I want it to.
For any suggestion, you can contact me, for any bug or crash, you can send me the circumstances of the problem. Always by email. At this address: webmaster@spyroland.net (put Asticones in the subject).
I want to thank macintroll for the pretty icon of the application (the hideous things in the tool bar however are made by me), Tom for the localization in japanese, and the contributors of IconFamily that made my work easier.
Asticones is no more the only one to offer you to view and organize your icons in MacOSX, there are now IconBox and Pixadex, two softwares that have a more iPhoto-like interface, with an icon library where you will have to import all your files (more or less efficiently).
They currently have more icon management functionalities, but are "heavier" to use in my opinion. They are also compatible with the iContainer format, which I don’t intend to do in a near future. Oh and they are Shareware.
I want to thank the IconFactory who waited approximately two years before waking up and finding a MacOSX developer, because if they had been faster to issue pixadex, I would not have created Asticones to fill their absence.
What, is the page not already long enough ? Well if you are bored, you can count the number of times "Asticones" appears on this site. After that you can go read more interesting things like megatokyo for example or the english version of macbidouille.
Whoah you have read everything ! (Or you cheated, that’s BAD
)
